Switching Account + Direct Debits

I'm considering switching my current account to First Direct.
I'm aware that all direct debits will be switched over however I have direct debits that will go out while the switch takes place.
My concern is that the direct debit will be taken from the new account which won't have any funds before the last day when the switch takes place. Am I misunderstanding the system or is this a possibility?

Why not choose a better switch date, to suit your DD schedule?
Alternatively, get an overdraft (or a larger one) on the FD account.0
