So you are permitted to take in lodgers then and the HTB agent has confirmed this.
They haven't confirmed yet, I am writing up a reply to them now. I'll obviously post an update of what she says.. but from what I've read it is legal. Lodgers are not given rights to temporarily own the property therefore it is legal.
As you know I am also buying a flat, with someone else as an investment. They asked if it would be owned in a company or by myself. I said the company and now apparently that is the same as me owning it.
I thought why ask if it is the same, and all I can think is this agent wants to be harsh or is stupid.
I would not be a stakeholder in the company, so I wouldn't own a share in it. I cannot be said to own that property if I have nothing to do other than manage it. So ye.. got to argue about that.0 -
Maybe the HTB agent is being harsh because they think you're at it.
On one hand you're saying that you are buying a flat with someone as an investment. Then you say it will be owned by a company which you're not a stakeholder in. I hope you're explaining your plan more clearly to the HTB agent than you are on here.0 -

Think I'm at it..
I am buying a commercial property to make money. If I set up a company and bought a shop would I be accused to trying to scam? no.. it is an asset in a business the same as these flats are an asset to my business.
I feel I am entitled to, and need, the first-time buyers intensives. This flat is meant to be a business income for me, that is all it has been from the start, so having something that is a business income affect my eligibility for buying a home is ridiculous and if I can I will find a way around it.
What I am trying to do is buy a house to live in, and I want to be assured that I have the means to pay for it and it won't get foreclosed. No offence to the people in debt but their short-sightedness has led them into financial turmoil and I just want to protect myself from that.
I hate benefit cheats and people that take away opportunities from others when they are not entitled to it nor need it. My mother has been ill and off work for 8 years now. We tried to claim benefits, but because she could walk 100meters without falling over they wouldn't give it. We fought the decision, but we never said just fake it and say you can't breathe.
Benefits and incentives are designed to people who genuinely need them, these should not be judged solely on stupid criteria.0 -
