Starter Card

I am on a somewhat small income but I've read that sensible use of a reasonable credit card can help boost your credit which is beneficial in the long term future. But I know very little about credit cards. I hate all the numbers and stuff as I have dyscalculia (yeah, real thing!)

I just really need some advice on what to do with a small income of like £400 pcm (ish) to help it grow. I'm ready to be financially grown up but no idea where to start..

Capital One Classic Extra gives 0.5% cashback on all purchases plus £10/year.

Set up a direct debit to pay off the statement balance off in full. Note the payment date and make sure there's enough money in the bank to cover the statement balance. You will pay no interest, get 0.5% cashback on everything and build up your credit file.

BTW is your income from a job or benefits?

...and make sure that the balance always remains below the limit (that is likely to be small). Also, never draw cash from a CC.

I would try the Capital One Classic Extra that was mentioned, or if that fails there is also the Vanquis Bank card although interest rates with Vanquis can be very high so paying the balance in full each month.
