£6500 for 35m gas pipe.

Please can anyone give me advice.
This is the price nationalgrid have quoted for a gas supply to be run to my property. I beleave this to be an unfair for a few reasons but the main one being if the distance was 25m it would be £500.
My property is the closest to the main 35m and once I get the supply all the houses along the street can have a conection for £500.

In the time since my application in April they have given this quote to which we appealed stating the above. I received a letter last sunday stating very little except that the price was calculated correctly and sugesting they might concider canvassing the street to find out if the cost could be shared.

Clearly why should anyone want to share the cost when it's obvious they only have to wait & then pay the £500.

Maybe if there are more than 13 properties and they all wanted gas, they'd be happy to share the cost.

Dont have any idea how these things work.. but is there any chance that you could suggest that the gas company run a gas connection 25m .. and then have your connection connected to it ???? If you put it to them that the likelihood is that the whole street will get connected (canvass) then they may go for it - or if its not posible then they may offer you a discount. I think its very unfair for you to pay so much more than your neighbours.

i am in the same boat £10.000 quote from fulcrum to come 40 meters. i have wrote complaint letters to the bosses at the national grid and asked them to try and resolve the problem and i have also asked for an accuracy challenge. i dont hold my breath that they will do anything major. i have also stated that in my view i am in `fuel poverty ` and the quote is not in line with the `affordable warmth programme` in which the national grid and fulcrum ( NG sister company) which is set by the government. good luck :T
