Vendor putting the property back on market for auction, building insurance or not??

We are in the process of buying a property (share of freehold, leasehold flat), and we have been ready to exchange for almost 3 weeks now. The buildings insurance covers the freehold building. You aren't buying the freehold building. You are buying a temporary right to use some space in a part of it. The buildings insurance is not your problem, and you have no insurable interest in the freehold building.

If the freeholder is that disinterested, tbh, it sounds as if taking this as a hint and walking away might not be a bad plan.
