Mac mini and emails.

Afternoon
Have bought myself a new Mac mini and am having trouble setting
Up my emails.
I have a Ntlworld account and when I download my emails on my
Ipad I only get my current emails ( about 3 or 4 per day).
But on my Mac mini its trying to download 37000 emails going
Back a good few years.
Need to change some settings somewhere, but need help.
Any ideas anyone?

Assuming you're using IMAP, that's what the OSX mail client does: it caches all your email locally. Why is that a problem? Just leave it to cook for a few hours, it'll be fine. I have 83826 pieces of email, so I know whereof I speak...0
