Help! Argos Card issues!

On Thursday the 16th of October 2014 at around 10:20pm I started an Argos Card application but did not get to complete it because at 10:30pm the website went down for essential maintenance. At that point I didn’t know whether or not the application went through – so I tweeted Argos and Argos Helpers to ask but got no reply.

The next morning, Friday the 17th, I made a second application and got to complete it this time, but straight after was told that I’d receive a decision within 7-10 working days. I then called Argos and told them what happened the night before. They then told me that the first application was accepted and the second one had been automatically declined because the first one was already accepted. I then asked if I would have 2 searches on my credit file and was told that there would only be one search – for the first application – because the second one was cancelled. I was then told the card is on the way in the post. Shortly after I called Argos again and spoke to a second advisor to ensure that what I was told was in fact the case – and the second advisor told me the same thing.

I waited to receive the card in the post, and called this morning (Saturday the 25th of October) at about 10:30am to check why the card has not arrived yet and was told that the first application I made was cancelled as well because I never got to tick the eSignature boxes at the end (site cut off). I was then told to make a third application and that that should go through. I then made a third application online and was told the decision will come within 7-10 working days. So I called Argos again and explained everything and the advisor told me that this application is very likely to be accepted but that I had to wait 7-10 working days for the decision as it had to be looked into. I don’t understand why this is the case if the very first application was accepted…? anyway I asked her about the searches and she told me that once they show up on my credit file, I can print the full report and send it with an accompanying letter to the underwriting department so they can "amend it".

All of this means that I will soon have 3 searches on my account when there should only be one – for the accepted application. If the third application comes back declined, all 3 searches should be removed. If the third application comes back accepted, 2 of the first 3 searches should be removed and the latest, accepted one should be the only one on there – only because I was accepted in my very first application (sorry if this makes no sense).

Basically 3 applications: 16th October (accepted but later cancelled), 17th October (automatically declined but cancelled) and 25th October (pending decision in post).

I'm worried that I'm going to have 3 additional searches on my file because of them - and that they won't remove it for me :( any ideas on what I should do? I have a feeling the third application I made will come back declined because there would have been 2 searches from the previous applications registered on my file...

Any ideas?

EDIT: just checked credit file... 3 searches on there from Argos for the 3 dates above -.-

  • I would write this above to your credit reference agency and Cc a copy to the responsible department at argos asking for 2 of those 3 searches to be removed.

PS this card has very high interest have you explored other options?

Unless you are planning on applying for credit somewhere else I wouldn't worry about it. Just follow their advice and ask them to remove the extra searches

You should have one search regardless of whether or not your application is accepted. Hopefully Argos will sort this out for you. Has the card arrived yet?
  • No I won't get the card because the first application was cancelled because I didn't get to eSign it (site maintenance cut me off) - so I applied again this morning and now waiting 7-10 days for reply.. probably a decline -.-

Just printed letter with credit file to send to Argos Card Services to sort out the 3 searches for me
