Have downloaded the ELO concert from the BBC website and using the iplayer for playback,it says 6 days left to watch.
Will I not be able to play it after the 6 days even though the download is on my PC in .mp4 format?

I imagine not, I'm not sure how it works but iPlayer downloads have always been time limited. Although I did think that they had recently extended the time from 1 week to 4 weeks, but perhaps it's either not started yet or it doesn't apply to everything.0

agrinnall you are correct, with the BBC iPlayer when you download to it it gives you 4 weeks to watch BUT if you click onto it {even for a couple of seconds}to start the program off it will then revert to only 6 days to watch from that day.0

Than for all your input, the iplayer you mention above is this an alternative to the BBC one and does not have any Time Limitations?0 -

It's legal AT THE MOMENT.
I just hope that BBC executives don't read this Thread...I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

I have used 'freemake video converter'
http://filehippo.com/download_freemake_video_converter
Put the url in the box at the top and the destination file in the box below and it will D/L it to your PC
Not sure if that's 'legal' or not!0
