Lost emails

I have Outlook Express 6, this morning when I switched the computer on I opened OE, it seemed OK, I then opened Firefox, after a while the computer shut down, I turned off and on, it did the same again, it said something along the lines of there was a problem and offered opening choices, can’t remember them all but one was to open using an earlier opening that was OK, I chose this.

The computer is now working but I appear to have lost about 20 emails from my in box, these are earlier emails some from years ago, is there a way to retrieve these emails?

My sent box has some emails from 2006, but the in box has only 7 emails going back to April 2014 and the most recent.
