Multivits too big to swallow!!

Can anyone recommend a complete Multi vit/mineral tablet which I can buy over the counter which DOESN'T look like a torpedo or a pessary??
Seriously, every time I need to boost my immune system I waste money as I can't see inside the vacuum packed pots beforehand. I know I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to swallowing tablets but, even so, some of the common brands have HUGE capsules in them.....to the point where I don't know which orifice to put 'em in!!

Help me out MSE people....you've been great in the past.

many thanks for all suggestions. :T

  • I'm sure a lot of them have a little shape indicating the actual size of tablet on the side of the bottle, not that noticable tbh so may have missed it.
    Otherwise you could try
-vitamins in liquid form, either kids or the cod liver oil ones with vits in or maybe the tonic ones, depends what you are after.
-Chewy ones, I think theres an adults one available
    - Fizzy ones like berroca

Multibionta are pretty good, and are torpedo-shaped but smallish. I take those, and I've certainly never had any problems getting them in the correct orifice (as it were...)

I know what you mean though, I have found some cod liver oil capsules and multivits in the past to be impossible to swallow.

  • I find it funny how many problems some people have consuming things when they are unable to chew them. My mother was similar but not too extreme.

It might be worth looking at the Holland and Barrett site because I seem to remember that they show the sizes and shapes in their descriptions.

It's all about how you swallow them! I have swallowed some large tablets and smaller large size #00 capsules without any difficulty.

Tablets are far smaller than the food we swallow easily, so it isn't likely to be a physical problem.

Personally, I find tablets easier to swallow without water. You may just have to find what works for you, but I'm sure you can find a way. It's a bit like contact lenses, it gets easier with practice.

Have you tried swallowing tablets in a spoonful of yoghurt, applesauce, mashed banana or other gloop?

Bassets have chewy multivitamins or there are other brands that dissolve in water.

I also had difficulty swallowing large tablets, I read these two tips and either works very well for me.

    a) take one or two glugs of water and then pop tablet in mouth and take with more water (sort of opens up the throat) or

    b) use a sports type water bottle, you have to tip head back further and this seems to give a better angle for swallowing. HTH:)

Asda own brand multivitamins are tiny and have a picture of them on the back of the pot. Alternatively try the yummy kids chewable ones although the doseage is obviously lower.

I'm not sure this is to be encouraged, but as a kid I used to practice swallowing smarties whole - as an adult I've never had any issue with tablets.

If possible cut them in half, or try a liquid supplement instead.

Water in the mouth then a tablet works well too - I think some of the problem is putting a dry tablet into your mouth makes it feel like it's going to stick and harder to swallow.
