In fact, I would expect most banks to have an outage of at least 1 hour from 02:00 on Sunday morning, if they don't then there is a very high probability of different transactions having the same timestamp after the clocks are put back.

You'd think they'd record all transactions in GMT all year around and just convert to local time when displayed to the customer...

Not the greatest of timings though, especially when it affects all ATMs. Could be interesting if you were abroad and planning to take cash out for the days spending - with the time difference to think about!

Too many problems associated with recording transactions as happening at a different time for 7 months of the year, it's much easier simply to have a short outage once a year (it used to be twice in my day but I believe they spring change is now done in real time).

Interesting question about withdrawals at foreign ATMs, on here we normally recommend having cards from more than one provider to try to ensure access to money at all times, but in this case most authorisation systems will be down so it could easily be that for a few hours no UK cards will work in ATMs worldwide.

Skipping an hour is a lot simpler to cope with than the same time happening twice in a day!

Nationwide are doing online maintenance tonight, but their ATM network is advertised as available.
