Black box cancelled insurance

My daughter had her car insurance cancelled by the black box company as they said she persistently went over their limits. However they also sent notification to say that the Motor Insurance Database record for the policy had also been cancelled. So my question is does this need to be declared forever when she tries to get car insurance?? She did manage to get insurance through a broker who specialises in black box cancellation but the premium is ridiculous. She now has a full year no claims and looking to shop around

On the face of it, yes she does need to declare a cancellation for life. But what exactly were these limits? I feel a complaint to the ombudsman coming on...My daughter had her car insurance cancelled by the black box company as they said she persistently went over their limits. They said she was cornering and speeding. We challenged a number of the speed complaints as they did not have up to date speed limits in our area and they admitted their database may not have been up to date. For the cornering they said she was going round corners too fast. Feel very frustrated as she has insurance cancelled when not even done anything legally wrong. Has now done a full year with no problem with 'normal' insurance.0

It looks like they were emphasising that they were no longer covering her - the MID is the database that shows whether or not a vehicle is insured (not the database holding details of individuals who have had a policy cancelled)... However they also sent notification to say that the Motor Insurance Database record for the policy had also been cancelled. Cancellations are on your record for life and most insurers ask if you have "ever" had a policy cancelled.
If she feels unfairly treated she should complain to the insurer and escalate to the FOS if unhappy with the reply she gets to the complaint0 -
Those black boxes are a scam, as you have discovered they don't work properly. They are just ripping off the insurance companies with a defective product.
Quentin is right. You need to ask for them to retract the cancellation. If they refuse you need to contact the ombudsman.0
