Just rang a Thomson's Travel Agent, asked if they can beat online prices, was told that they'll match it, and add £25 to it, for the comfort of them booking it for you... I thought she was joking, apparently not.
Do you think it costs them the same to
A) open up a shop and employ staff

Rather defensive, you don't work in a Travel Agents do you?
The customer is after the best price, do they really care about overheads etc?
If the best price to be had in store, is that of which the customer has already found the best price, plus £25 for the privilege of someone else booking the same deal, well, not for me.0 -

I did exactly this. I had been looking for a decent price for weeks for the new year week in playa blanca. I had a quick look on my phone whilst at work one morning, and saw an excellent deal with Thomsons, but didn't want to book it on my phone ,so i nipped into the shop on my lunch break. They offered me the price plus £25 so I went for it. I'm so glad I did as by that evening when I was showing it to OH on computer it had gone up by £200pp0 -
Nope. Never have done.steven07968 wrote: »Rather defensive, you don't work in a Travel Agents do you?
Very often the customer is after support, help and advice. While price is usually important it isn't always the primary reason for buying. The customer is after the best price, do they really care about overheads etc?
Not for me either. If the best price to be had in store, is that of which the customer has already found the best price, plus £25 for the privilege of someone else booking the same deal, well, not for me.
But not every holiday buyer is the same as you. Or me.0 -

I normally just research what I want online and then go into the local independent travel agents, and ask what is the cheapest they can do it for, including airport run, and book with them, we can pay a deposit and pay in installments too and at least I know it is protected.
Not sure whether to book now or wait till after Christmas, decisions, decisions:cool:
Ask in your local Thomson shop when the second edition brochures come out, as generally the prices go up, but they do have January sales so they may come back down for some of January. But having said that December is a really quiet month so you may be able to negotiate a good deal.0
