help and advice needed re:1 yr old chewing cot

hi guys

really after some advice here

i have a 1 yr old girl who i swear was a dog in aprevious life:rolleyes:
she chews absolutly everything and anything i know shes teething but shes always done it

problem is now she has started chewing massive chunks out of her cot and im a little concerned that she may choke although i always check on her when i know she s not asleep and i have an anglecare monitior too

but i was thinking about getting a travel cot and either seeing if her cot matteres fits or getting one made to fit i know that it will prob be expensive but its worth it from the saftey aspect

has anyone else had this problem and what do u think i should do:confused:

thanks

  • does she not have a teeth guard on it, a bit of plastic that fits on the top of it round the edges?

depending how good she is on her feet it may be easier to move her to a low first bed with a guard?

My DD was a climber at 1, and I cant tell you how many nights she would launch herself out of the cot to land in a heap on the floor. Eventually we bought a bed that was probably only 8 inches off the floor and transferred her into that along with a couple of bed guards at either end (One side was next to the wall).

I know its a little early to be transferring to a bed, but it may be a good soloution for you :)

I have a 2 yr old who chews sticks...

Is she actually biting chunks off it? Or just gnawing?

They chew guards are good until they chew through these too... you can try the stuff you get to help stop nail biting. It has a bitter taste, maybe some of this painted on the cot would stop her? Or maybe she would just drool on it till it washed off?

thanks to all who have replyed so far yes she is actualy chewing massive chunks out of it i go in and she has massive bits hanging out of her mouth and just gives me a reall cheeky grin did not really fancy getting one of the guards as i honestly beleive she will shew through it i have one of those urban detour pushchairs with the solid foam/rubber bars on the front and she has chewed massive chunks out of that too could try putting her in a bed but she is really on the move at the moment but not yet walking and im worried that she may hurt herself but its an option for when shes steady on her feet

lol ive only just managed to get my 2yr old sleeping in her cot now im trying to think of getting my 1yr old out

It's a metal framed junior bed I have and the guard is metal too!

He went into it when he was just over a year, as his cot broke. He was a shaker, he shook the side panel off it! He managed in it fine, even though he was just walking (he has Hemiplegia, a form of Cerebral Palsy so is unsteady)

Think your only choice is to switch to a new cot or bed!

She sounds like the little girl from Lemony Sniketts a series of unfortunate events!

I think I would definately go with junior bed then. Ikea did do a fabulous little one for about £36 including the mattress, it is still wooden, but in fairness once duvets etc are on most of the wood is hidden away.

It is strange seeing a baby so small in a cot though! DD looked dwarfed by her bed!

my DD is almost ten now and I got her one of these because her room is so small (we are currently selling our home for something bigger!).

Its a fabulous, sturdy bed for the money:

The wooden bed rails are removeable so Id suggest you replace those with plastic or metal lol. I think basic mattress is £20 on top.

For the cost its one of those things you can just try out and havent really lost much if it doesnt work out!
    Good luck!

IKEA also do a metal one too! Mine is an old one and you can't buy it anymore, but the IKEA one is very similar. A nice long guard on one side, it means you have to push it against a wall though.

Saw it in the new 2008 catalogue this morning.
