My mother has today received a parking ticket fine from these people relating to last saturday in a city centre retail car park. She's just called me and is extremely distressed and at almost 80 wont be able to deal with this herself - the appeal process is far too complicated. Unfortunately I live over 200 miles away and I'm not sure if I can write to them and take this over on her behalf? Does anyone know if that's possible? I guess I could write pretending to be her but then the responses will still go to her address which will worry her even more! Any advice gratefully received.

Don't see why you can't do it on her behalf, after all Parking Ticket Appeals does just that every day.
Can you get her to sign a letter authorising you to act on her behalf in this matter? There's no hurry, it'll be at least 3 weeks before anything comes in the post.Je suis Charlie.0 -
Start by reading the Newbies Sticky carefully - this outlines all your avenues for seeing them off.
At 80 a strong complaint to the landowner/retail operator can be very effective at getting these cancelled. They really don't like the negative publicity that ensues from their PPCs targeting pensioners. Also does she have any long-term health issues that would justify complaint under the Equality Act? Again, good for getting these stopped at source.0 -
Send the appeal in the Newbies thread in her name but giving YOUR postal address - tell the PPC at the start that they 'must use the above new address for all replies as I am now living with my son for the Winter months'. She can say what she wants so just put that. Don't add stuff about what happened except to say 'the driver is disabled under the definition in the Equality Act 2010 and so this charge is discriminatory'. Obviously don't remove anything from the template - just add those bits.
Then you will get the response to the appeal letter and you can write the POPLA appeal with our help - POPLA is easy to win although you have to use certain wording and cross fingers to 'swerve' Amy whatshername as your Assessor at the moment (she's a newbie who doesn't get it yet but I expect she will get up to speed soon).
Was the ticket for alleged overstaying a set time limit? If so it's certainly discriminatory. Disabled and infirm people need more time in law to go about daily activities (a reasonable adjustment of time should be made for such drivers). Not that POPLA care about that fact.
Finally, why not try one thing first? Google the shops there and ring up and complain, ask if the Store Manager will step in to cancel it. Ring them tomorrow. Your best 'targets' are national chains and you could also put a fairly sharp and barbed complaint about disability discrimination in the car parks, on their Facebook page and/or Twitter which often gets a swift reaction to help & cancel the crappy PCN.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
