Hi all,
I am trying to reclaim charges for being mis-sold packaged Barclays accounts. I have received a letter saying that they are processing my claim but need me to give them additional information. This is very detailed and I can't recall most of the things being asked. They also called me to ask for more details. I feel like I am being cross examined and I am sure that it designed to either put me off or catch me out. Any advice?

What reasons did you give when alleging this was mis-sold to you? Remember its not refundable just because you ask. If you gave a vague complaint saying you already had the cover elsewhere then it would be understandable for them to ask who with. They are not trying to catch you out, but just trying to find out if this was mis-sold to you.0

I was mis-sold the accounts as I was told that I needed to have them in order to get an overdraft. The additional benefits were never used and I never really knew what they were. I have written a fairly lengthy letter already and it just seems that I am being given more hoops to jump through. I just wanted to know if this was standard or whether I had just been sent this.0

You are being cross examined. This is probably because you havent given them enough detail in your complaint and they are asking you to fill in the gaps.
Remember there is nothing wrong with having a packaged account. It is whether they were sold correctly or not. You have made a complaint alleging wrongdoing and they need to find out from you what things you think were wrong or didnt take place.
This tends to happen on weak complaints (hearsay - he said/she said).I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

If I had a pound for every time I had heard this line, I would be a rich person!
You need to understand going into this that questions are not designed to "put you off" and neither questions nor (if it happens) a rejection letter are designed to "fob you off" despite what you may read in certain places. They are a business not a charity. The person looking at your complaint wasn't there at the time and is looking at it with several years gap. Your complaint is also one which you can't provide any evidence for and you are accusing them of misconduct.
That's not to say that they won't uphold your complaint, but if they are going to do so, they are going to want to be confident that you are telling the truth and not just trying to make a quick buck out of them as a lot have tried with PPI. In that way you are right that it is a cross examination of sorts, as with any witness. Just answer truthfully and if you can't remember then say so.
Also don't take it personally, it is standard practice.0
