Wrong room booked?!!!

I booked a holiday in Feb for my son and myself and paid extra for 2 double beds. I emailed the hotel yesterday with a query about something else and they stated that we were booked into 1 double room. Panicking in case there are no double doubles left and can't get in touch with travel agents until late today. What can I do if there are none left please?

    We've experienced this a couple of times when our children were younger. The hotel may be able to put you in two interconnecting rooms, or offer you a twin room (in which case you'd want a refund of the extra you paid for the double doubles).

    Each time it happened to us, it was for a Holiday Inn booked through a 3rd party, so I assume their trade reservations system doesn't always reflect the accommodation each hotel has available.
  • Its twin or double generally irrespective of what the bed sizes are.

    Have you checked your booking to ensure you did book at twin? There is often a caveat that room preferences are just that and not a guarantee.

    A fair few hotels actually have the same beds in both doubles and twins and just push the beds together, put a topper on and larger bedding on it and so it is possible to separate them and make it back into a twin.

    If you did book a twin and there is no caveat on room preferences its down to the hotel to propose an appropriate solution but obviously if there is a cancellation clause you may want to be careful how far you push it.

    At the end of the day though it is your son, obviously not ideal to share a bed with them but its not like sharing one with a work colleague etc

    Don't panic yet. It's not until Feb and your travel agent should be able to deal with it (via the hotel or via their supplier, depending how they booked). It's a common issue, not helped by the fact that "double" and "twin" don't even mean the same thing in Europe and USA. What's the destination and is it a chain hotel (Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hilton etc) or an independent? Some of the chains don't guarantee bed configuration on certain room rates, though if you paid extra there should be a reason for it.
  • I have double checked the booking from the travel agent and it does state that there will be two double beds however the email from the hotel yesterday said the reservation is only for one double bed.
    The holiday itself is in December, I just meant to say that I booked it back in Feb. It's also an independent hotel not a chain.

    Most hotels in the USA are booked as 1x King or 2 x queen size beds, rather than double or twin

    of course I dont know where the OP is going
