A popup has appeared "You now have the latest generation with new features" Then a link to activate, will the new features slow my PC down? Are they essential? Should I activate them?
Thanks,

I would suggest you research this on the Avira website in the first instance...0

I will have another look, last night all I could find was reference to the professional product.

Avira NG sounds like a great idea. It takes advantage of the hardware virtualisation capabilities of modern CPUs to ensure that Avira's scanner operates in a virtualised environment (protecting it to a greater extent from malware manipulation).
By using the CPU's native virtualisation, there should be no noticeable drop in performance. It's a really nice idea.
Can't remember what else changed... probably nothing important!0
