Hi
I purchased three items together on my credit card during a recent trip to the US. The items are as follows:
Item 1 - $98
Item 2 - $18
Item 3 - $74
The transaction has appeared on my credit card in sterling as £117.47
I have no idea how to apportion the different amounts to the total in sterling. One of the items is for a friend and she is giving me the money.
I hope someone can help.
Thank you.

OP
You might want to know how SnowTiger got to the answer :cool:
$98 + $18 + $74 = $190
$190 = £117.47
So
$98/$190 x £117.47 = £60.59
$18/$190 x £117.47 = £11.13
$74/$150 x £117.47 = £45.75

Or, as basic algebra:
Assume exchange rate is x
98x + 18x + 74x = 117.47
190x = 117.47
x = 117.47/190
x = 0.6183
So the converted amount of the first item is 98 * 0.6183 = 60.59
(which luckily agrees with both Tiger and badger's calculations).0 -
As has been said, divi it out proportionally. Some card companies charge a fee. Don't forget to divi that out, too

Here is a recent broken-out-fee example from my NatWest Card:
XXXXX COMMUNICATIO 49.00 USD £29.50
NON-STERLING TRANSACTI FEE...... £0.81
(Two minutes to write - five minutes to make the two £ values line up correctly - D'ohhh)0 -
I used a Santander Zero credit card which I understand is fee free, I'll double check when my statement arrives and let you know.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

If you are charged a fee and want to apportion it so your friend pays her/his share
just substitute the fee for the £117.47 in my post 4 above
