Notice of correction (Electoral Roll)

Hi,

When I called Experian earlier today to cancel my subscription the customer service agent told me that I should add a "Notice of correction" to my report, explaining why I'm not on the electoral roll (foreign citizen).

I tried to gather some information about this, and I found some forum threads telling that some lenders might automatically reject you and just presume the NOC is something negative.

Should I not be on the electoral roll with or without an explanation?

Thanks

    both are as bad
    Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

    I believe that notices of correction are pretty much useless (or even bad) as the computers that rule everywhere nowadays can't understand them.
    So, typically the notice can
    • be ignored (neutral);
    • cause rejection because it's some unknown obstacle (bad);
    • cause human intervention (good, but unlikely).
    And in fact it doesn't matter why you aren't on the role. You either are or aren't. This is just some extra way of verifying your ID, nothing more. So, I think, in this case the notice cannot improve anything regardless of what Experian expertsrolleyes.gif say. It's just common sense really.

    How foreign is 'foreign'? Any chance it's EU?

    Thank you, I won't make a NOC then. "Unfortunately" I'm not a EU citizen.
  • As a note to what Grumbler said, under data protection law, you can insist that your application is reviewed by a human being if it's rejected by the computer. So you could have a NOC and even if it automatically rejects you, you can get a human to look at it, but at the same time the company could have a policy to reject anyone with a NOC.

    Swings and roundabouts.
    Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.
