Paid a fortune for Experian credit score - now free???

Hi there
I have looked through the threads but haven't found what I'm looking for. I do apologies if I've overlooked something and have created a duplicate thread...

A few years ago I decided to make a conscious effort in improving mine and my husband's credit scores. I set up a little spreadsheet and monitored our accounts and payments. I even copied the score colours and updated the information on a weekly / monthly basis.

I know it wasn't debt-busting friendly but I used to pay £5.99 (I think) each time I wanted to view our (updated) credit scores....

Fast forward a few years - I moved overseas for 2 years and returned back to the UK. We're saving for a mortgage now, and back on Experian. Have paid my £14.99 fee (which I believe I can ask to be refunded) BUT the credit score updates automatically for free now! I am not interested in the actual report yet as I haven't applied for credit (won't get any!) and am only on bill repayments.

Can someone tell me why it's free now? Why did they charge for this in the first place? Is there any way I can claim these payments back. Have I missed something in the last 2 years or so? I was a bit put off about paying the fee in the first place but I became so obsessed with my spreadsheet that I did it anyway.

Many thanks in advance for you help and advice.
