    Hi there,

Firstly, I think it's really nice of you to do a baby shower. I organised one for my friend last year and I made cup-cakes with pastel coloured iceing for the pud. They were really cute and went down well. Also quite easy to make in advance. If you want ideas for the rolls-royce of baby showers look at www.marthastewart.com - there's a whole section on there. They are quite fancy though...

    Have fun!

I see no hobnobs on the list :D what about bags of jelly babies for the games prizes, as for the sweet, hm chocolate cake or little strawberry tarts, sounds like a fun evening for everyone
  • we have baby showers here a lot. Just a thought, you might want to leave out anything that mum-to-be shouldn't be eating/drinking, like the stilton/ brie (there are loads of nice cheeses that would be ok) and wine (not recomended in pregnancy). It's her party and she might not want to feel left out if she can't have a drink or some of the food on offer. All the showers I've been to have been no alcohol (and I've been to a few)

Do you know all the adults who have been invited? If not, any veggies or those who don't eat pork products for religious reasons would have a rather lean time! Otherwise sounds lovely. I've never been to a baby shower as my circle seems to do this kind of thing after baby arrives but they sound like a lot of fun.

i have to say my shower did have alcohol, all pink because i was having a girl :D You could perhaps make a non alcoholic punch for mummy to be though? or non alcoholic cocktails?

as well as not having cheeses she cant eat, also dont put smelly cheeses out - might make her tummy churn.

Have you picked the games to play? We had draw the baby (on the bottom of a paper plate with the plate on top of your head) and guess the baby foods at mine among others, it was all great fun :)

We have baby showers at work instead of leaving dos for expectant mums. We have them as afternoon tea with lots of cakes and fresh fruit platters, and (decaff) tea and coffee. Ours lasts for 1.5 hours but we don't normally play games.

The last one I went to I brought weetabix brownies which went down well. I just dusted them with icing sugar to make them a bit fancier. They can be made the day before or even frozen.

What about fairy cakes with pink and/or blue icing? Or decorated with jelly babies, as previously mentioned?

We normally have a special chair for the mum to be. With a nice cushion and balloons tied to it. This normally goes down well but the last mum didn't like it for some reason and decided to hide in the corner instead. :o

Background music? I think they played whale music at the last baby shower I (thankfully) couldn't make. :rotfl:

"Guess whose baby photo" game. You could get everyone to do this while waiting for people to arrive.

I like the idea of anonymous gifts. :j

We have relatives in Canada and baby showers are common there. One game I remember them telling me is to buy a very cheap pack of nappies. All open them and the one that has smeared mustard on it is the winner. :D You could do this with white face clothes to represent terries or a cut up old white towel.

    Hi Penny-Pincher,

I've moved your thread across to the Special Occasions and Celebrations board to see if you can get any more ideas.
