I agree some energy companies's bills can be unclear (though have no knowledge of Eon's bills).

    Hi bannedbiker

Really sorry we refunded the wrong amount. To be honest, from what you've said, it sounds like a mistake was made by the advisor who closed the account.

I'm assuming, when the account was closed, a final bill was issued to your meter readings and this gave a credit balance of £70.

Given how quickly you received the cheque, I suspect the advisor overrode the system and manually sent the refund.

If they'd left it to the system, the expected Direct Debit payment would've been cleared and a cheque for the right amount sent. This would've delayed the cheque for a few days but it would've been right.

As the wrong amount was sent, the balance will be now be showing as overdue and will have triggered the follow up bill.

To take this further, I'd go down the complaints route. We'll investigate and speak to the advisor concerned.

If you're not happy with the result of the investigation, you can refer the case to the Ombudsman for an independent ruling.

I know what it's like moving home. The expenses seem to keep rolling in. If it helps, talk to us about setting up a payment arrangement to spread out the repayment a little.

Sorry again for the inconvenience bannedbiker and if my speculation is off track. Hope you're now settled in your new home.
