Boundary Law

No need really, I could just go and ask my solicitor to dig the originals out of his vault.
I have looked a few sets of deeds in my time and none have had specific measurements on them.
One old set of mine does have a drawing of the house and land with the boundary marked by a thick line. Scaled up, it would be about three feet thick, so not much use for quibbles over inches.0 -

That's precisely my point, I don't recall ever seeing anything that looked like a deed with dimensions marked on it. When disputes arise I assume they're settled on the whim of a judge, rather than by reference to any objective data.0 -
Lawyers and surveyors can make good money out of boundaries because the only law regarding them is common sense.
In too many cases parties get wound up by a few inches of a fence - a figure impossible to measure from plans - and they end up in a dispute costing them far more than accepting the situation would.
The time when boundaries do get interesting is after severe flooding incidents when features may be completely washed away.0 -

Evidence on the ground is usually the most reliable guide although, in your case, that seems to be ambiguous.
As davyjp says boundary disputes can be bad news for your bank balance if you can't find a compromise you are happy with. You have to ask yourself if it is really worth it.
My father spent thousands trying to claim back a few square feet of land where the housebuilders had put a fence in the wrong place. Unsuccessfully, I might add.
I had an issue where the planning dept gave permission for some building work next door that encroached 18" on to my land, this despite me pointing it out to them before final approval. In the end I couldn't be bothered to fight it given that it was genuine mistake on my neighbour's part and made sod all difference to me really. Life is too short.0 -
Our neighbours fence is a good metre inside our boundary, but we share a passage through to the gardens and they let us keep our bins in their garden (technically on our land lol!) so I'm not going to rock the boat.
I was looking at our land registry drawing the other day as it happens.0 -

But what happens if they sell up and move and you get new neighbours?0 -
That is fine as long as you remain on good terms with the neighbour and they don't change their minds.

If they get shirty I'll move the fence just inside my boundary and provide them with a gate to access the shared passageway.0
