I declared this fact that the money was a gifted deposit to the bank. The bank were not concerned and advised that this was normal.
Unfortunately it's totally irrelevant. As the solicitor performs the required checks on behalf of the lender. Your solicitor is employed not only by you but the lender. You just pay the costs.0 -

My solicitor isn't lending me anything.
The bank is lending me money and the bank didn't need this information.0 -

Even if it goes nowhere I will get the satisfaction of wasting someone s time dealing with it.

A sad sad world we live in today. The most pathetic sentence I've heard in a while. Why not just move on and get a life.0 -

It's pretty ironic that someone with nearly 38,000 posts here is telling me to get a life. Perhaps some introspection is required?0 -

Feel free to moan away to anyone in authority that will listen - no-one in the legal profession asked to be made to do this extra admin or have to deal with clients who are irritated by it. However the chances of it changing any time soon are on the same level as all criminals giving up trying to launder their ill gotten gains into the legitimate financial system. Your inconvenience is very small compared to the difficulties it causes them and thereby makes it harder to commit crimes and get away with it. Given that ultimately crime costs us all (either in taxes for police and prisons, or in higher costs as insurance and companies cover the costs) handing over a bit of evidence that no-one is really going to be that interested in is realistically a small price to pay to keep it down.Adventure before Dementia!0

Another point of view is that someone who's been thanked over 33,000 times on the site might be worth listening to.0 -
Of course the bank needs that information. It normally gets picked up in the application stage.
