Bt - Payment in advance

Hi all,
Hoping you can help with a little issue I have with Bt.
We received our bill on or around the 8th of this month. I'll be honest, things are getting a bit tight in the household at the moment so my husband and I decided it would be a good idea to cancel a couple of the services provided through Bt.
Now, I called up to cancel these services and assumed as they are services to be paid in advance, as soon as I cancelled they would simply be credited off of my bill.
Apparently this is not quite the case with Bt, even though I haven't used any of the services which have now been cancelled, they still want me to make the payment in advance to them, and then have the services credited off of the bill next quarter.
I cannot get my head around why I should have to pay for a service in advance that I have already cancelled. Why they cannot simply credit my account I do not understand.
If someone could please give me some pointers as to where I stand on this matter that would be great.
Thanks.

I suggest you ring BT and ask them why."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

I have done so and they said because the bill has already been issued it not cannot be adjusted until the next quarter.
Very frustrating.0 -
This is usually the case, however if you pay the bill, less the amount BT are going to credit, it will balance the next quarter. If you pay by DD, this will not work.0
