receipts after paying by debit card

How sensitive is the imformation stored on a till receipt

Its got the latest for digits and expiry date. Could this info be used by dishonest people

    In usual circumstances, no. For card not present transactions the last three digits on the *back* of your card are needed (as well as the full number on the front); as well as, typically, your verified by visa password etc.

    Some shopping etc. websites may use some of your debit/credit card number for ID purposes, but as the last 4 digits are commonly in plain site, they shouldn't be using them.

    The exception to this rule was Apple. I believe they have changed the practice now...

    For a given last four digits of a credit card number, assuming it says on the receipt "Mastercard" or "Visa" so it's easy to pick out the first digit, there are at the most 11^10 possibilities for a full 16 digit credit card number, which equates to 25,937,424,601 possible credit card numbers.

    So to answer your question - there is no risk whatsoever.
