New gas connection non-standard length

Hi
We have had an offer accepted on a house but aren't due to move in until May next year as there are currently tenants in situ.
The house currently has an electric combi boiler and isn't connected the gas supply, so we are budgeting to get it all replaced and connected. The next door neighbour has gas, and after speaking to SGN they advised me to go through the quote process and then just not accept the quote as we are not ready to proceed.
Did that and got a very pleasant quote of £0 for all the work, phoned to confirm it and they said "yes we won't charge you, provided there is 23m or less of pipework from the gas main to the boundary of your property" Then after a very length conversation i got emailed a map showing where the main is in relation to our house. Crudely using calculate distance on google maps i reckon we are over the 23m by almost 10m. No one at SGN can tell me roughly what this extra cost would be and i can't take it any further because we aren't the owners yet.
Does anyone have any experience of what the costs are for what SGN class as Non-Standard new connection?
Thanks

How come you got it free? Was it through assisted connections for those on benefits.?
we had install done , the info is on the website or in the terms they sent with quote, from memory its about £650-7 for above 23m0 -
Where are you that is doing this free ? We are ~5m from the main and were quoted £4000 a couple of years ago.
We are on a council estate and the council installed gas to all their remaining houses at the time we enquired about it. It was done using a mole and 1 team was able to do 6 houses in a day with no traffic control or anything else obvious that would increase the cost.0 -

look up national grid to see who provides new gas install in your area.
in scotland, benefits get it free on assisted connections scheme.as I posted abve it could be less than 500 for short distance.0 -
Back in 2011 I got connected when I was about 70m from the mains. It cost around £3,000. This was about 6m on private land, and 64m on the public road.
It took about 4 days to do and wasn't done with a mole, then another day for another contractor to come along and fill it all in and tarmac over it. When I saw the amount of work, and people they had working on it I didn't think that £3,000 was too bad a price.
This was in the Wales and West area.0
