Does Coke really help clear a blocked sink?

Sure I read somewhere of this suggestion but more out of curiosity really but can Coke really help to clear a blocked pipe?

Anyone had any real success with this method?

Never heard of using coke before, but as it is acidic I guess it might work to some degree on fat or soap blockages. Proper blocked sink opener would be far more effective, and boiling water would be far cheaper though...
  • came across this list of uses a while back

  • Best thing you can do with it is pour it down the sink...

Nah, you must be getting confused with Pepsi - Coke's lush.

Many years ago I worked in a work area that had highly polished floors and the cleaner was very proud of his work. In those day there was no such thing as a ring pull can. I used to pierce my coke cans with a hammer and a centre punch tool. The can tipped over and propelled itself all around the polished floor as if it were rocket propelled. Which, indeed, it was. I got a serious load of grief from the cleaner because the coke stripped off all the floor polish. It took him ages to bring the surface back to something like respectable.
So, in answer to the question. The coke might well have some effect in the drain. Though I could not predict what that effect might be.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.
  • Use Virgin cola.
