Have made several attempts to get Santander current account - for the interest rate. Don't particularly wish to move my current account(held jointly with my wife) so applied for 'second bank account'. The red line comes up saying my expenditure exceeds my income which it plainly doesnt. I wondered if they had a minimum monthly income limit. I accept they don't want me but I'm a little piqued as its never happened to me before. As far as I'm aware I've no credit problems etc. I would be interested on readers' opinions on which negative they don't accept,or maybe all of them
I'm retired.
I have 5 credit cards(I use each for different purposes and one foisted on to me, (American Express) which I already had, by Barclaycard despite my protests.
I don't have any debt I'm aware of.
I've dont have any hire purchase etc.
As I said I wanted somewhere to put our joint savings and no-one else matches their rate...even with so called bonus rates.

When you are completing the application form, the information that you are providing in the various boxes relating to income and expenditure must be such that it looks like your outgoings are greater than your income. So yes, on that basis it would be likely for you to be rejected.
Are you certain that you are completing the form correctly?0 -
You had to pay in a minimum of £500 to get the 123 account when I looked earlier this year0

Are you having this problem on the online application?
When you input your figures have you tried it using whole pounds rather than xxxx.00 ?Don't wait for your ship to come in, swim out to it.0 -
Agree, you need to use whole pounds, no decimal points
Like: £10,000.30 must be entered simply as 100000 -
It is best to tick the main bank account option on the form. Doesn't mean you have to use it as your main bank account once accepted, although it makes sense to transfer those direct debits that earn cashback in any event. Ticking the no overdraft option might also increase your chances.0
