How can I "pass" on an electronic identity check?

I have been registering power of attorney with a variety of financial institutions, for my mother, and almost every time they write to me requesting a range of documentation to prove my identity (not credit worthiness, but don't know which other forum to post this on - please feel free to move it if necessary). When I phone to query this, they tell me that they have been unable to verify my identity electronically. I don't understand why, as my husband, who is also living at the same address, doesn't get the problem - they say they have verified him. I am on the electoral roll and have a credit card account in my name, as well as a joint bank account. Is there any way I can ensure that I can be verified electronically? This is really annoying as the documentation has to be certified by solicitor etc - a real pain!!!
