virgin mobile and credit score

Hi all, Im new to this site but felt it the best place to vent my anger. Earlier today I applied for finance on a new car, had done all my homework, best price and deals and so on. Rang the company went through all the credit check only to be told NO. I have never had problems before so was very shocked. I then proceeded to apply for my credit score but had to pay £10 for the privilage. It turns out that 18months ago i had a mobile phone contract with virgin, I rang them after the 18 mnoths to terminate the contract, due to it being a terrible deal and the customer servce i received left a lot to be desired. Well when i terminated the contract I kept receiving a phone bills for £45 that i had not used, so spent the best part of a week speaking to various people to get this resolved. I eventually spoke to a member of staff at virgin who confirmed that I shouldnt of been billed because I had termnted the contract, but due to the time It took for me to resolve this, Virgin have now listed me as a late payer, hence my credit score:confused: im so angry, not only for the time its taken but the telephone calls and having to pay for my credit score and all this is down to virgins incompetant staff. I now have to wait 21 days for this to be resolved. Anyone else experienced this

It might not have anyfink to do with virginmobiley.

A one of late payment wouldnt affect your credit score that much matey. I wouldnt get so angry matey.
  • Basic credit check costs £2 each from Experian and Equifax . DO NOT go for any of their fancy services .
It could be you have low credit , not because you have "bad" credit . One missed bill will make very little differnce to your credit rating , if at all .
Was your credit file OK , was there anything on there that shouldnt be ? Have you been applying for lots of loans/credit cards recently (even if you didnt take them out) - when you apply for any type of credit a search goes on your credit file for a year , even if you didnt follow through with the credit .

Thanks for your replies. I havent applied for credit for over 2yrs, I have 1 loan for 5k thats nearly paid plus mortgage but nothing else, I have no store cards or c/c and always had a good credit rating. spoke to the peeps at Equifax and they said thats the only thing that has stopped me getting the finance.

It wont just be one payment that has caused it, that doesnt stop credit. They must have defaulted the CAIS and that is why you have bad credit. One missed payment does not make you have adverse credit
