Should I settle with HSBC...

Hi
I have just recieved a letter from HSBC a month after my initial letter was sent, threatening them with court action for £2,091.00 of charges over a 5 yr period. They have offered me the sum of £1,107.00 without accepting any liability on their part. They also write that they do not think it 'appropriate' that i have included interest in my calculation!??
Is this a reasonable offer from them. While I am happy to get anything back from them, they have been awful during a period of illness and I am loath to let these 'criminals' get away with any more!! My father has a fair amount of money invested with them and is happy to threaten to withdraw his business from them. Is this a good idea? Should I write, call or both?? I was thinking to basically take away the interest charges and offer to settle for that amount, somewhere in the region of £1,500. Does this seem reasonable??
Thankyou in advance for any help or advice.

I've had a letter today saying basically the same thing, they'll settle for £764.10 without admission of liabilty despite the actual amount of the charges being £849 and £250.71 interest (which they have also said is not "appropriate")
I'm guessing that it's another fob off letter, as I understand it, if it goes ahead with court action and the court rules in your favour it is entirely appropriate to claim the statutory interest on it.0
