Negotiating a reduction in EA fees after sale

If the contract states the agent will find a ready, willing and able purchaser and nothing more, the OP is expecting more than the agent is contracted to do.
If the agent issued the sales memorandum then told the vendor and purchaser it's over to your solicitors now and we have nothing more to do with it, I don't think expectations would be as high.
As my ex-boss, a 12 branch estate agent owning chartered surveyor used to say "anything we do after issuing the sales memo is designed only to ensure we get paid as quickly as possible."
It's important to know exactly what you have contracted your EA to do...I am a mortgage broker. An honest estate agent? You should have him stuffed...kingstreet wrote: »As my ex-boss, a 12 branch estate agent owning chartered surveyor used to say "anything we do after issuing the sales memo is designed only to ensure we get paid as quickly as possible."0 -

Indeed. I'm a big believer in "you get what you pay for", but in this instance using a big flashy EA has just cost us more money for a service that was substandard.
I'll still chat to the manager (if he ever returns one of my calls!) and try and negotiate something, but if I do have to pay I won't jump off a bridge and I'll pay promptly.
It's good to get some different perspectives, though!0 -

You say they have not called you back - have you made your complaint formally, in writing, and in accordance with their complaints process? If not, do that. Try to be as factual and unemotional as you can.
Be clear about what they did (or failed to do), what you feel they should have done, and what you want them to do to put things right. All posts are my personal opinion, not formal advice Always get proper, professional advice (particularly about anything legal!)0 -

I don't pay for premium services in the first place.

In which case my comment wasn't overly appropriate. Sorry about that.kingstreet wrote: »Old-school chartered surveyor, no longer with us sadly.
