Sky insurance scam

I've just had a phone call who asked for Mr Peter-the-Piper saying that I have a Sky contract for £8.99
Now I can understand a plain cold call as they stand a chance of hitting their target about 1 in 5. What I want to know is how the got my name and the fact I'm paying £8.99 to Sky, albeit for a youview subscription. He did not hang on long enough for me to ask him but I'm miffed to think sky could have given out the details.

I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.

I agree with "deanos"
My sister lives on the continent and has Sky but it is registered in my name.
I have Freestat and Freeview.
I get calls like that from a 01792 No. for me to renew my insurance.
The only people that think I have Sky is Sky themselves.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -

Well i think you have answered your own question, if Sky are selling the insurance they have access to your details, simple0

I work on the premis that if the box doesn't work then there's no point in me paying Sky.
So far they've replaced the box free or at reduced cost every time.0 -

Sky only use Domestic & General who sell under the name SkyProtect. This is the only company that Sky endorse.
There was a scam a few years ago where a company sent people out to look for Sky dishes and even count the feeds going into the dishes. The crossed this against the electrol roll. This meant they could call up people and sound very convincing...Hello Mr. Deano. Im Bob calling from Sky (or very similar sounding name - Skyb etc). From our records we an see that you have Sky television. You have a multiroom box too.......
Sky wouldn't sell your details as they make so much more money having one official supplier of insurance. Yeah... they are greedy!0 -
My sky box went down on Friday.
During the call to sky they offered a £65 call out which I refused. They then agreed to a free call out on Monday.
Sky fitter only had 2tb boxes in the van, so now have a shiny one under the telly0 -
Sky CS seem ok, i am due to get broadband tomorrow, so far pleased with the people on the other end of the phones.
On your sky account there is options to opt out of marketing and 3rd party emails, etc, you should opt out on the website, i did.
And don't go to Sky Vegas gambling you will lose all your cash fast.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
No point on the insurance. The box has a 1 year warranty anyway as it's an electrical item. After 12 months your contract will be up, so you can threaten to cancel if your box stops working, I'm sure they'll do something about it then0
