Dealer buying scrap car - who fills in Yellow slip
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/66740036#Comment_66740036
explained my hunting for best value for my ex-Zafira
I found a dealer who would give me double the scrap and he is coming round later and says he wants to fill in the V5C (esp yellow slip V5C/3). The notes say I should do this
Is that standard practice or definitely dodgy - I don't want a fight - but I don't want a parking ticket either - what's my risk if I just give him the form

You're selling the car into the motor trade, so fill in the form as directed by the instructions printed ON THE FORM.0 -
I filled the slip in when I scrapped mine, and we both signed it.
If he wants to fill it in, is it maybe that he's operating under different names?

Doesn't matter who actually writes the details on the paper.
It's your responsibility to post the yellow to DVLA.
The trader takes the rest with him.0 -
Fill it in, the car goes into trade, your both covered, he does up and sells. What's the problem?0

I cant see any - which is why I was worried about why he just wanted to take the form.
He's either avoiding some hassle (which I can understand), or its a bit dodgy
I'm not going against the law for £70 - but I wasn't sure if it was just one of those standard operating proceduresI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour

He may have a stamp, lots do, you then post the yellow slip and he keeps the VC5.
Always post to DVLA with a free certificate of postage as they can and do "try it on "I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -
We have scrapped two cars recently, but we took them to the scrap yard ourselves, so it may be different if they are picking up from you.
For us we had to give the scrappy the entire V5 and he printed out the certificate of destruction. Now the first time we did have issues with the DVLA system not updating and us being sent a fine for no tax on the car, but this was sorted out when we sent a copy of the certificate in.
The one most recently (post 1st October), we have already received our tax back (12 days it took) and the V5 for the new car we bought from the scrappy at the same time.

This is the bit I think you need:
Cars, light vans and 3-wheeled vehicles
If the ATF agrees to scrap your vehicle they’ll give you a Certificate of Destruction (CoD) straightaway or within 7 days of issue if you’re scrapping a:- car
- light van
- 3-wheeled motor vehicle (but not a motor tricycle)

sounds like the guy is telling you he's going to scrap it but in reality plans to do it up and sell it on. Make sure you know which option applies, and do what it says ont he V5C, different approach for each option. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

If you transfer it into the trade (yellow slip), he can then scrap the car or repair it. Once you have the payment, does it matter which happens?
The certificate of destruction option only applies if you are personally taking the vehicle to be scrapped. You aren't.0 -
all sorted - thanks for your help - genuinely its for a doer up (good luck to him). I think I was over worried, and he was a bit vague in his email to me, in practice it wasn't an issue
I have the yellow slip in front of me and it will be going off to DVLA tomorrow. Getting the tax back will be a nice bonus as wellI think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
