I was watching celebrity fat club usa the other day and there was a segment from one of the fatties homes where they were showing him getting ready to go to sleep. He had a sound activated on/off light switch which he used to turn off the ceiling light by just clapping. Now I want to know where I could get my hands on such a set up. I hate getting out of bed during the winter when it is freezing and would really find it extremely convenient if I could just turn off the light by clapping.

I remember this from trips to the US, its called "The Clapper" and they have some daft TV ads for it.
Never seen it here though, odd that, anyway here is what
the market leading one look like

There are other types the US.
If you look on ebay and search under "the clapper" you will find some but all US listed so postage not to mention voltage would be a problem.0 -

I have a remote control light switch from maplins, works really well.
I would get one of these rather than "a clapper" for bedrooom use as if you were making ,erm, clapping noises in the bedroom the light would flash on and off in time with the noises. Amusing at first but eventually very annoying Im sure.

Ok, step by step guide.
1. Turn lecky off.
2. Only 3 terminals on the new switch, same as the last. Note where each wire goes and rewire like for like.
3. Keep it easy on the clappin.
4. If in doubt consult qualified electrician ( note, he we may be unable to help you on the clappin)
5. Turn lecky on ( do a search for houshold insurance on this site before doing so . ). May also want to consider life insurance too..
Above all, note point 3.
Hope this helps.
