It's actually only a 6 month trial then you have to buy a subscription. However, still a very good offer and a very good and highly rated piece of anti-virus, anti-malware software. Non-techie users should be aware that this is a full internet protection suite and although it will run perfectly well on its default settings there is an opportunity to tweak it to do a bit more. You will need to make yourself aware of these extra features to get the best of it.
Some will argue that all "internet security suites" are bloated and include features the majority will never use and in effect slow your system down. Whilst that can be true depending on your specific setup they nevertheless provide different layers of security that will protect even the most paranoid of users and make it much more difficult for viruses, trojans, rootkits and other drive by malware taking hold of your system.
The previous poster is correct in stating that Bitdefender along with Kaspersky's internet security suite have been the top rated software for at least the last three years on the AV Comparatives and the AV Test charts. As a balance, the free AVG Internet Security Suite is now also highly rated by these sites as is that by Avira. The popular choice on here for many years has been Avast but although still a decent program has been slipping down the chart for the last couple of years.
For those preferring ultra lightweight cloud based anti virus protection then Panda's free program and also Bitdefender's seem to score the highest marks for protection.0
