Question about Credit Card Withdrawl

Hi folks,

Just a quick question regarding my credit card with Lloyds.

I took out a credit card at the start of this year and up until now have not used it at all. For some reason, the pin number I thought I made for it doesn't seem to work so am aware I will need to request a new pin activation code.

With that in mind, I need access to some of the funds before next week. Can I still go into my local Lloyds branch and draw out the amount I need over the cashier desk without access to my pin number (if for instance I took in a passport & driving licence as proof of ownership)?

I hold a personal, and business account with them also, so I presume I can still get the funds I need without having to wait for a new activation pin to come through the post? I'm going away next week for a month so time is against me.

Many thanks,

  • You want to withdraw cash from your credit card or from your current account?

Current account you can normally do without your pin and over the counter as long as you have ID with you (and probably best not to have your debit card with you)

Getting cash from your credit card is exceptionally expensive way to borrow money and not sure if its ever possible to do over the counter with or without your pin.
  • Well this is in the 'Credit Card' forum and I did mention 'Credit credit' in my O.P, so yes, Credit Card.

And I am well aware of the APR and Fee's which isn't a problem because I'll be paying back a considerable amount each month.

The credit card is linked into my current account, so surely they shouldn't be a problem? Otherwise, are they are other alternatives, such as transferring the money to Western Union? I don't have time to wait for a pin.
  • Sorry I can only give you an annecdotal answer. But whilst I was in a queue at Lloyds, I noticed a lady that wanted a cash advance. She was asked to put her card into the machine they had on a counter. It might not have been a Lloyds card.

When I've dealt with Lloyds, they have been hopeless in any situation where they could have applied discretion. A friendly local branch might be different.

Perhaps phone the CC line and ask if they can do a transfer into your current account? Some will do this on the same/similar terms as a cash advance. But you do need to check they will do it right away.

As CC appears at the top list so we get questions about everything here and not everyone knows the difference between credit cards, debit cards and charge cards hence the number of posts on S75 claims for debit and charge cards.

You need to check with your bank if you can. Barclays say they dont, Natwest say they do so doesnt seem to be consistent.

You most likely can use a third party service to liquidate some funds from the card, you will have to pay some merchant fees for doing this but on the flip side depending on who you use you may find the transaction becomes a purchase rather than cash advance. Eg if the CC and current account arent already linked to the same PayPal account you could in theory register a second account and use one to pay the one linked to your current account and thus allowing you to withdraw the money net of PayPals fees. This probably breaks their terms and so technically you should use a friend/ family member to pay and they give you back the money but I've known people have multiple accounts

    Hi RandomDude,

You can use your credit card to make a withdrawal in one of our branches without your PIN. Please take along identification such as your passport or driving licence.

I appreciate you're aware of the fees and interest, but, if you do need to double check them at all, you can find the info through our website.

    I hope this helps,

    Craig

I visited my local branch a couple of hours ago and they were happy to help.

    Cheers guys!
