Halifax Clarity

in Credit cards
I have taken a new halifax clarity card for my holiday to Spain. Unfortunately I got a higher APR of 21.9%. I know there is an interest for ATM withdrawals and just wondering about paying some money in to credit card in advance to prevent them charging any interest. I know i can make online payment same day to prevent this but there is a possibility that I will forget or wont get time. Is it a good idea to do this.
Thanks for your help

It's against the T&C of the card - though some people have reported that they have done it and got away with it.
The danger is they will return the payment or freeze the card. So it's not a good idea0 -
0.6% of £300 isnt going to break the bank, even the bank of an MSE'er.
They will close your card if you prepay!0 -
21.9% APR equates to a little over 5p per day per £100 withdrawn.
So take out £500 over the course of a 2 week holiday and, because your average cash balance is £250, the cost if you settle immediately you return to the UK is £0.05 x 14 x 2.5 = £1.75
Hardly worth worrying about?...being as it's the average cost of a large beer!0 -
Thanks to all. I should have done my maths before I asked the question.0

Can I ask another question please. Can I purchase anything from a foreign site and will that be considered as using abroad. I am trying to buy a ticket for an attraction for my trip. I want to purchase it from their tourism office site (payment in euro). Thanks.0

you will not be charged any extra for buying from a foreign site.
I was in america last month and withdrew cash over there and the same day made a over payment to the card without any problems0 -
But make sure they actually charge in euros - some will "kindly" do a conversion to quids (at a gruesome rate) when they see a UK card.0

OP, apologies for asking questions on your thread but I thought it would be better than starting another thread about the same card & it is easier for everyone if all the Qs & As are on the one thread.
I am contemplating applying for this card but I was wondering how do you work out how much it would cost to withdraw €100?
Also can anyone who already has this card tell me how long it takes for a foreign transaction & a foreign ATM withdrawal to show on your account because I was thinking that if they appeared on the same day as the transaction/withdrawal was made that payment could be made to the credit card for that exact amount (therefore not breaking the Ts & Cs of the card by not placing the account in a credit balance) and if the payment reached the card on the same day would any interest be incurred?!?! :money:0 -
You can't work out exactly how much in advance - only a rough estimate0
