File transfer using airdroid

Thanks in advance for any assistance...
I have a chromebook and an HTC one m8. I use the phone a lot to watch media on during my commute to work. As the chromebook currently doesn't support FTP when uploading to a device, I use airdroid to instead send media to my phone. Typically, a 200MB file will take around 7 or 8 minutes to transfer to the phone.
I was round a friend's house recently and used their BT hub as the network interface for airdroid file transfer and it took about about a minute for a 200MB file. I was very impressed by this which made me look into how I can improve my upload speeds. I'm assuming that the speed is directly related to the upload speed of my own router, which is the sky Sagemcom 2504N router. From all the research I have done, this should be a relatively faster router and offer fast network upload speed?
As a result, does anyone who knows much about airdroid know if a new router would increase the transfer speed, and if so, recommend a router please?(not expensive!)
Kind regards

Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
Oversteer is when you hit a wall with the back of your car
Horsepower is how fast your car hits the wall
Torque is how far your car sends the wall across the field once you've hit it0 -
Thanks for your response.
I was aware of FTP being added to chromebook. It works in that it allows for data to be transferred from my phone onto my c/book but doesn't allow for data from my c/book to be transferred onto my phone. It's as if the phone is read only and not write as well. I don't know if this is specific to my phone or a feature that hasn't been implemented on the c/book.
Either way though, I'm stuck using airdroid for now!0 -
I think I mean MTP and not FTP0

MTP write support is being worked on but not supported at the moment0

Install an FTP client on your phone as well, ES File Explorer works for me.Understeer is when you hit a wall with the front of your car
