TSB Classic Plus Account: opening multiple accounts

Options
I saw on MSE the following:

If you opened a TSB Classic Plus account before 13 October 2014, you can open four accounts - two single and two joint. You'll have until end of January 2015 to open the remaining accounts. If you open this account after 13 October you can only open a maximum of two - one single and one joint.

However, despite opening an account on 12.10.14 [in time] I heard nothing further from TSB and when I've rung to chase they said that I have to reapply again and when I explained I wanted to open four accounts they said I'd missed that boat as the deadline was 6th Oct. They said the information on MSE website was incorrect!
:money:
Has anyone else had the same problem?

Can the moderators advise? Was the MSE advice incorrect in relation to the deadline?

If MSE was correct and TSB are wrong then I will go back to them and ask that I'm reinstated! My application went all the way through to the completed and sit back and wait for us - stage! Yes I took a screenshot!

Thanks

PS. Don't normally have spare cash lying around but just re-mortgaged and waiting for building work to start!!!!!! All the builders round here are dead busy and can pick and choose their clients! He who has the best biscuits [and deepest pockets] wins!

  • To open your second sole account, apply on line (when you are NOT logged in).

The system will recognise that you are already a customer and both accounts will display when you log in.

Has the person with whom you would have the joint accounts also opened a sole account?

This can only be expected to work if the OP's application was fully accepted by midnight on the 12th. Which it may not have been for some reason.

OP, the deadline was midnight on the 12th, not midnight on the 6th. It seems you are unfortunate as for one reason or another your application didn't complete. If, however, you believe your screenshot gave you a sort code and account number, and has a timestamp of before Oct 13, you could complain if you don't prefer to just put your remaining money elsewhere.

Does that mean that if you had opened two joint accounts a few months ago you are each still entitled to open two sole accounts?
Free the dunston one next time too.
  • Thanks all.
My screenshot showed I'd completed stages 1-5 [5 being completed] and said I had to sit back and wait - didn't get the sort code etc. which I got this evening when I tried again. When I rang TSB this afternoon they were adamant that the offer ended on 6th October - hence I wanted to check the previous advice on MSE was correct. I will proceed with the application but see if they will honour the additional accounts given I did take a screenshot. The CS person said they could see that the application had stalled but couldn't say whose computer was at fault, mine or theirs!
To Kidsmugsy - I think the answer is yes - but best to look on the MSE website the link is still valid - it just wouldn't let me include it in this post.
    Thanks

I agree, the answer is probably yes. It doesn't really matter what MSE or the MSE forum say on the subject, as the T&Cs of TSB prevail. So it's a matter of asking TSB.
  • I missed this, so its not true that a 2nd ac now would pay 5% if a 1st ac was already there in sept
  • Forgive me but I'm a bit confused. Did everyone manage to open their second account ok?

Oh opened his first account in July and wants to open a second one but his rating has taken a hit due to all the new accounts (tsb, Halifax and Aqua) opened in July. Before that he only had one bank account, so no bad history but not much history. Anyway those three new accounts are now 3 months old but are still showing as a negative, will it be safe to apply for the second TSB account before the deadline?
