Went into my overdraft

I have a bank account with Lloyds and I went into my overdraft on my account by £14. I was charged £11 which I paid. I was only overdrawn by £14 for a couple of hours as I got paid that night.

Is this going to have a negative effect on my report or will it be okay?

Thanks,
Andy

  • Nah, really wouldn't have thought so - the fact that you repaid it and brought the account back into "good standing" quickly means that bank probably couln't care less and are happy with the £11 profit they made.

If this isn't a regular occurance, I suggest calling Lloyds up, giving them what ever the best reason you can come up with is, apologise and it's quite likely that they'll refund the charge. They don't have to, but as "a goodwill gesture" and "on this occasion", they might do.

If it's an arranged overdraft it won't have any negative affect at all
Changing the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.
  • It shouldn't have a negative affect on anything. Like Leodis1970 mentioned the bank probably wont even notice or care that you had an overdraft. I agree with the suggestion of calling the bank and talking to them. Often times, especially if this is the first occurrence, they will give you a refund. Plus it doesn't hurt to try. :-) Good luck.

I don't think it is. It would appear they went into an unarranged overdraft, resulting in 2 charges...one of £6 (monthly usage) and one of £5 (daily usage).
  • Thanks for all your help.

I wrote them a letter and they refunded the £11 into my account. Very happy.

You should organise an arranged overdraft with them (just in case) because they won't be that geneorous again.

I am closing my Lloyds account anyway. My main account with Santander I think I will arrange one. It is very rare though, that is the first time I have ever gone into my overdraft.
