Who is responsible ??

Bought a new build house less than a year ago. The letter plate on front door has developed a fault and is really now not fit for purpose as part of the letter box falls to the floor (internally) every time postman delivers a letter - clearly needs replacing. I would think either the faulty part was faulty when fitted or has become unuseable due to normal post delivery useage.
Builder merely passed me to the door manufacturers who in turn have said their letter plates are not covered by warranty although when pushed they said their warranty would run to tarnishing issues. Ideally need to know who is responsible to replace this item - the builder or the door manufacturer

Your contract is with the builder.0

Your contract is with the builder not the door manufacturer.
It will also be incumbent upon you to prove there was an inherent fault after 6 months.0 -

My builder told me (and the other 7 in the development) that we could "store up" issues we had with the property at the end of the first 12 months to avoid his men having to come out virtually every other week to different homes to correct the niggles/faults - I can understand that as clearly he wouldn't want to send a painter out to do small rectification work on a specific property and for the same guy to be sent out again a few days later to another house - economies of scale. So the door plate has been faulty for months and was included in the list of "to do's"0 -

That's exactly what he should be doing, what if nobody else has an issue?
Great customer service, you live with it for 12 months and we may pop back and fix it.0 -
Your contract is with the company that sold you the house and they are the ones you should be pursuing
I had a similar issue with our front door not fitting properly and whilst the builders did take responsibility of instructing people to deal with it they insisted it was the door suppliers responsibility but after this went on for months I spoke to the door people themselves who said that (a) this was a fitting issue not manufacture and (b) the builder had not been in contact with them
Did finally get the builders to send round their carpenters who just fitted some spacers to the hinges and fixed the problem but that was only after getting to the point of threatening court0
