Collection agencies are notoriously bad at keeping debtors informed of any such changes. You're right, the situation is not very fair on you. In theory Cabot should be the ones getting in touch with you, but you may wish to contact them directly to establish any new payment details you need, and also to ask that any detrimental info recorded for September be amended. After all you should be able to show that the payment left your account at the usual time.

If it had been passed to Apex/Cabot/whoever as a debt collector, then yes it would in almost certainly have been a defaulted account anyway. In fact, one key indicator for recording a default on the ICO guidance is the passing of an account to a collection agency, so if it hadn't been recorded as one before it should have been as soon as it was passed to Apex etc.

As said, once a default the month status code stays a D or 8. It doesn't change back to the normal ones as you can't undo the fact of the original default.

I have been paying a debt off for a few years it started at £1500 and I now have it down to under £900, these payments have been made via DD with Apex credit management.

Looking on my Noddle report today I see I have a default with cabot finance for the outstanding amount of the debt, but my DD went to apex and I haven't received any communication to say NOT to pay Apex or anything from Cabot to say YES pay them instead.

I have emailed both companies, but have I just set my bad credit back ANOTHER 6 years?

Strangely enough, I've got a very similar problem. Currently paying Marlin Finance £20 per month with only 4 months to go. In July it had no red D symbols next to the month entry and my credit rating was 3/5. I've paid them as usual, on time in August and September but now two red 'D' symbols are by the entries for these months. Nothing else has changed and my credit rating is back down to 1/5!!! Have emailed Noddle to ask them about this - waiting for a reply.

Sadly, the wrong part about that would be the missing D's for the previous period, and not that the recent ones were wrong.

    Good luck though.

ahh maybe I have got myself worried for nothing, the debt was previously only showing as belonging to Lloyds and was 'satisfied' the Apex debt wasn't showing, so maybe now it's moved within the company they are showing on my file where it didn't before. PHEWWWW I thought it meant my payment hadn't been received.

Once defaulted, no monthly payment information shows on your credit file. Ever.

The only thing that will change is that the balance owed should be updated occasionally to show it reducing.

Regards the account previously showing as satisfied with Lloyds, that is quite typical of what happens with an account that has been sold on. The record of the original lender is either removed, or marked as "satisfied" for a while, and if it remains then is marked with a debt assigned marker so you can see it's a duplicate and not a double record.
