The other good reason for this is you learn to "zoom with your feet" so you think more on the composure of the shot, where you are standing etc
Common enough advice but no use at the zoo, an air show, sports, weddings, the circus....
Things have changed in the 40 years or so that I've been using SLRs and I'm surprised how many photographers don't seem to have kept up with progress in optics. These days zoom lenses can be very good indeed. There is simply no reason not to use one for everyday photography.0 -
"THE best lens a new person to DSLR photography can (and should) get is the "Nifty Fifty". Each manufacturer does one, and they retail for around £100. It will be a 50mm fixed length (so good quality images) f/1.8 (so great for low light). In basic terms, a 50mm is basically the range you eyes see."
Not quite right due to crop factor. The equivalent to a 50mm lens for a smaller sensor Nikon DX SLR is 35mm. A 50mm lens is equivalent to 75mm so you will end up with less than you can see with your eye.0
