Shed roof cover blown off

Hello,

Just noticed the roof cover of the shed has blown off on one side. It's rough black covering and it is ripping. Where can I get new covering form? The wood roof of the shed is now exposed and I'm worried it will get wet and start leaking badly.

Will this be expensive to buy/replace?

Thanks!

    Roofing felt or 'shed felt'.

    Wickes, B&Q, any builders merchant.

    Pretty cheap.

Hi Katie. Your shed roof is covered by roofing felt. It comes in a roll and its very easy to replace. The same happened to me (many years ago) and my local DIY shop supplied me with all I needed to do the repair. You will need a roll of felt, some glue for joins, some big headed nails for the edge of the felt and a knife or tough scissors to cut the felt. Wicks has some info about shed roofs and there are lots of videos on youtube http://www.wickes.co.uk/Products/Building-Materials/Roofing/c/1000181

Don't buy the £20 cheapo roll of felt, as however well you apply it, there is a tendency for it to rip. Go for the more expensive option which is typically £30-£40. There should also be wooden strips on the outside of the roof sides/ends which stops the wind ripping the felt away. If you don't have the wood strips, the felt just won't last as long.

There are companies online who will sell you the Iko shed felt for £20 next day delivery, but I did not find this much good. This would be similar to the budget shed felt you will find in your local DIY outlets. If they do a stronger felt option for £10 more then it will be a better option.
The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.
