Ppi claims

I am in the process of trying to get PPI back. I'm not 100% sure if I took it out or not and they were a few years in the past. Can I just do the PPI consumer questionnaire paperwork and send it all to the creditors that I thought I might have had it with? All I have is my name and address at the time? thanks in advance

The PPI miss-sale is judged on your circumstances at point of sale so if you took out a loan and then went onto a secure job that is moot.

Do not make the mistake of believing claims company stories about PPI and the self employed, many policies did in fact cover it, it would only be miss-sold if there were conditions that the FOS believe were too much to make it fair to claim.

You would do best ringing each firm and asking what records they have left before you start complaining - just sending in vague complaints without firm dates and facts just makes you look like a chancer and may harm your complaint. Remember you need proof of paying the PPI to get a refund so do you have any records yourself? If not, you will probably have to send in a SAR and £10 payment to get copies of all the records they hold. Unfortunately if they and you have no records left you won't get anything.

After that, you can then put in a more robust complaint about when you were sold the cc/loan/mortgage and know what you paid as well as having your employment condition at the time to help prove your complaint.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

As Nasqueron said, do some research. Find out if you had PPI and try and recall the sale and your circumstances. If you just send complaints in on the off chance then you will make yourself look like a chancer and harm your chances.
  • Bengal, who is the bank? I worked for Co-op dealing with PPI claims so know exactly how they work. If you were in the armed forces or work for the emergency services, Co-op generally pay it back without any hassle.
