Vanquis

Hi All

My first post after browsing the threads for a while!

I have cleared my overdraft of around £2000 6 months ago, payed of my store credit, and finished my mobile phone contract.

I have a poor credit rating due to some late payments and things, however i have never defaulted so wanted to increase my score. I applied for a vanquis credit card and have been accepted. I feel comnfortable now to manage the card & my spending habbits as I want to be able to get a mortgage in the next few years.

How are peoples experience with vanquis,... I do have 15 days to cancel however i just want some sort of clarification that they are at least okay as i saw it as a steady way to build my credit.

Thanks all

J

  • They're fine as long as you abide by the t&cs. ie don't go over your limit and pay on time.

Make sure you pay in full each month and don't take out cash.
  • I had the card for about four years? Never had a problem with them. Like the poster above said, as long as you abide by the T&Cs, you'll be fine. And the card does it's job. It improves your credit history which gives you an opportunity to apply for prime cards with decent perks.

I used to use my Vanquis card for my food shop and petrol. It only came to around £450 every month and it was always cleared in full.
  • Thanks for your input, That is what i intend to do get my petrol on it and clear ito off in full each month.

Sounds like it may be just what i need :)

    Thanks again

I had Vanquis for just over a year - the period between my IVA finishing and all the associated stuff dropping off my credit files.

    Pro's
    - they were the only card provider willing to touch me at the time
    - no interest if you pay off in full
    - rapid increase from £500 limit to £1250 in under one year
    - good for the credit file

    Con's
    - the card took three weeks to arrive

    I'd recommend them certainly.
Never argue with an idiot. Especially not this idiot because I'm always right anyway.

They are good - I had one for a period of time until I ran into difficulties. During this period they were superb and helped me through. I no longer have it, but I cannot fault them for their approach. Yes, definitely pay it off in full each month
  • Vanquis have been a decent provider for me, I've gone from the initial £500 limit to £3500 now. So long as balances are paid in full each month to avoid the high interest rates you should be fine with them!
  • They're decent, just don't fall into their trap to buy their PPI-equivalent. They'll keep phoning you and pestering you but you can generally get them to stop.

Set up a direct debit to pay it in full every month. Don't fall in to the borrowing trap or you'll be stuck with 60%+ interest.
Credit 'Score' - Don't buy the credit 'score' that Experian, Equifax and Noddle want to sell you. It's an arbitrary number that means nothing when it comes to applying for credit.

ALWAYS HAVE A DIRECT DEBIT SET UP FOR THE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON YOUR CREDIT CARDS, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER YOU PLAN TO LOGIN AND PAY EACH MONTH.
  • i have had the card since feb - had one increase and never really had any problems. Card is just like any other interest can be a lot but thats the way it is lol - never been pestered either all round good card for what it is
