laptop not reading sd card card.

Hello. I have a Toshiba laptop it has stopped reading my sd card. When I put the adapter in the slot nothing happens. It is quite a new computer and has been reading the card without any problems until today. It's Windows 8.1. I have tried other adapters and checked for updates, also done a system restore. Not made any difference. Can any one help please. Thank you.

Are you putting a SD card into a SD slot on the laptop?

Where does the adapter come into what you are doing?

What adapter are you using?, to adapt from what to what?

Is it a micro-SD card fitted into an adapter so it can go into an SD slot?
  • Yes it's a micro sd in an adapter to go in an sd slot. Have tried a different micro sd card and different adaptors in the toshiba laptop SD slot and nothing is happening. It has opened perfectly up until today. I'm trying to upload a couple of photo's from my phone to my laptop. |The phone is a Nokia C2 . Have tried with the micro Sd card from the camera too and still nothing happens. Will try in daughters laptop when she gets home from work. many thanks.

    Hi

If you could use a hard disk partitioner it should list all drives.
    Safer option try
    Piriform Defraggler
and see if it lists the card there.

Go to the device manager on your laptop. Look for the SD host adapter and uninstall it. Reboot and try the card again.

I had the same problem a couple of days ago.
  • Thank you everyone. We have found there is a damaged pin in the port. Will get it repaired or get a usb card reader. Thanks for all your replies.

In Windows, an easier method is to type "mmc" into the run box to start the Microsoft Management Console, and add the "Disk Management" snap-in via the File menu.

That'll show you all attached drives. If a drive isn't mounted (i.e. it hasn't been assigned a drive letter), you can assign a drive letter manually.

(Not important in the OP's case, but I thought I'd mention it...)

Even easier in 8.1. Just press WIN+X and it's on the menu there
